Embrace Your Gayness

Changing the world’s attitudes toward gay.

Coming out is the most difficult process for most gay young adults. It’s a process that takes years of questioning, denial, anger, depression, and often suicide attempts before coming to terms with. Making it more difficult is the constant barrage of negative comments toward homosexuality that kids hear in school everyday.

The American Psychological Association discusses sexual identity, discrimination, and the difficulties gay and lesbian youth face in coming to terms with their sexual preference on their sexual identity page. In it the APA describes sexual identity as being on a continuum.

The continuum hypothesis has survived study after study since Alfred Kinsey began his research in 1947 and introduced the idea of the continuum.

It’s time to make a change.

One of the major stepping stones to decreasing depression and suicide among gay youth is helping all youth understand that being gay is normal and healthy.

By showing the world that we’re all part gay (even though it may be only a small percentage in many of us), we will be showing gay and questioning youth that it’s okay to be gay and that they are supported by many people around them.

Our goal here at PercentGay.com is to get this message into schools so that counselors and teachers wear their own gay percentage to show the kids in their schools that they have support and they don’t have to be ashamed to be gay. We believe that in doing this, bullying, prejudice and discrimination of gays and lesbians will decrease over time.

Help us in this process. By doing so, you will be supporting your own gay, lesbian, and bisexual friends.
